Video: Nissan 370Z vs. Mexican Chicken

Posted: 07 May 2011 05:00 AM PDT

We see a lot of funny commercials now and again, but rarely does one make us sit back in our chairs and let out a loud guffaw. Ladies and Gentleman, meet Pepe, a Mexican chicken ready to start its battle with the popular Nissan 370Z. There will be no eye-gouging or scratching, but there will be plenty of laughs and speed.

The marketing geniuses that came up with this idea have summed it up as follows: "A Mexican chicken? Up against the meat-eating Nissan 370Z? The things we do to prove a point. By the way, those of a nervous disposition, look away now."

This is the point where we have to clear up some things for the boneheads out there. Do NOT try this at home. A chicken is an innocent animal that should not do battle against anything, let alone a 332 HP sports car.

By the way, the Nissan 370Z is powered by a 3.7 liter V6 engine with an output of 332 HP at 7,000 rpm and 270 lb-ft of torque at 5,200 rpm. The engine is mated to either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed automatic transmission.

Would you drive a whiskey powered car?

Posted: 06 May 2011 11:00 PM PDT

Ever watch that show American Pickers and hope Mike Wolf and Frank Fritz would come over to your place and pay you for your junk? Mickey Nilsson, 62, of Bardstown, Kentucky had that exact experience, but he was not so pleased with the offer.

"The two knuckleheads from TV show American Pickers (Mike Wolf and Frank Fritz) stopped by here trying to steal from me offering me $200 for my old stuff and said I had no use for it since moonshine was illegal. Although I did sell the chubby one with the beard oil can for $40 before they ticked me off."

Instead of selling his junk, Nilsson grabbed some inspiration from the 1968 musical film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang where a magical flying car was made from junk and created his very own whiskey-powered vehicle. The task took him six months and should be revealed as a concept car in 2014. There are some setbacks however. The world is suffering from a depletion of oil resources, but the average price of Bourbon is $24, making it much more expensive than gasoline. Can’t we bring back the DeLorean from Back to the Future and run cars on our trash? Just a thought.

Nissan GTR800 by Hennessey

Posted: 06 May 2011 12:00 PM PDT

Hennessey has been laying out packages left and right for a variety of models lately, including the Dodge Ram HPE500, Cadillac Escalade, and now, the lusciously tuned Nissan GT-R. There was no time wasted fiddling with the exterior of the GTR because Hennessey went straight to work pumping up the standard 3.8L V6 engine to produce up to 800 HP.

We haven’t seen this many additions under the hood of a vehicle since the last Hennessey tuned project we encountered, so we’re going to focus on some of the more important ones for now. The standard 3.8L V6 engine was jacked up with the help of SUMO turbo, intercooler piping, and intercooler core upgrades, as well as high-flow fuel injectors and chassis dyno tuning and engine calibration. Other additions include a SUMO stainless steel midpipe exhaust, SUMO stainless steel turbo downpipes, and a SUMO high-flow cold air induction. These modifications allow the GTR800 to pack an 813 HP punch and sprint the car from 0-60 mph in 2.6 seconds. The 0-100 mph sprint is made in 6.2 seconds and the quarter mile can be had for 10.5 seconds at a speed of 136 mph.

If that’s not enough for your average consumer, then Hennessey is equipped with several different options, including a transmission clutch pack upgrade, a SUMO electronic exhaust cutout (75 mm), a KW variant 3 adjustable coilover suspension upgrade, premium wheel and tire packages, and carbon fiber body kits and accessories. Oh, and they’ll also throw in Hennessey and GTR800 exterior badges and serial numbered dash and engine plaques for good measure.

Hit the jump for specifications on Hennessey’s Nissan GTR projects.

Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 'Ballistic' by SR Project

Posted: 06 May 2011 11:00 AM PDT

SR Auto Group gets its kicks from transforming luxury exotics into more aggressive and beastly machines like the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560 'Erebos' and the Audi R8 V10 Project Valkyrie. Their newest project launched "with the idea of going all out with no restraints" and they used this philosophy to transform the Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 under the ’Ballistic’ project.

The Murcielago ’Ballistic’ received its edgy styling from the Premier 4509 package that includes a new front bumper, rear spoiler, and rear diffuser. SR Auto Group then finished off the look with a matte black exterior finish and a new set of 20" PUR 2WO design wheels. The tuning firm isn’t about challenging the power outputs provided by Lamborghini so the ’Ballistic" utilizes the Murcielago’s 6.5L V12 engine cranking out 631 HP at 8000 rpm and 487 lb-ft at 6000 rpm.

"Adapting our minimalistic approach with an out of the park kit that redefines the look of Project Ballistic was not a easy task to accomplish. The Premiere 4509 kit was the perfect way to complete this task. A mix of carbon fiber flowing with the glimmering gloss black exterior was definitely a sight of beauty."
