| Posted: 21 Jul 2011 08:00 AM PDT The BMW X6 is no doubt one of the most successful models BMW has recently launched on the market. So, it should not surprise you the fact that more and more makers announced plans to develop their own version of the X6. After Audi has announced the Q6, Mercedes has also revealed plans for a MLC Coupe-Crossover. Of course everyone saw that coming as there has always been a war between the three companies. The future MLC will be built on the same platform as the M-Class, but it will be completely different. The exterior design will feature grille, headlights and tail lamps from the CLS limousine, while the general look will be a something similar to the X6. The model will feature the M-Class all-wheel-drive, but without the special off-road capabilities. Engine line-up will start from a standard 265 HP diesel version and will go up to a 544 HP one for the AMG model. | Lamborghini Murcielago 'LB-R Zero Fighter' by Liberty Walk Performance Posted: 21 Jul 2011 07:00 AM PDT Japanese tuning company, Liberty Walk Performance, is a household name in the Japanese tuning scene. With their works finding their way on the Web, these guys are well on their way to being recognized the world over as a pretty bad ass company. Known for their works on exotic supercars, LWP has come out with a new kit for the Lamborghini Murcielago called the ’LB-R Zero Fighter’. The styling kit features a new paint scheme that was inspired by Zero Fighter planes from World War II. The military theme of the whole LB Performance Type 2 body kit also features camouflage-themed seats on the interior with the calipers given the same treatment. In addition to that, the car also comes with a set of Werfen GT-04 wheels with similar camo pattern barrels. As far as performance upgrades go, LWP left the supercar’s powertrain untouched, opting to keep the Murcielago’s 6.5-liter V12 engine the same. Can’t say we blame them, considering that on its own, the supercar is already capable of producing 631 horsepower at 8000 rpm and 487 lb/ft at 6000 rpm. With most programs for the Murcielago, LWP’s project is a unique military take on a modern-day exotic that figures to get much more attention than a stock Murcielago ever could. | Posted: 21 Jul 2011 05:00 AM PDT Anytime you have an Audi R8 V10, then you already have a car that’s as imposing and powerful as any sports car on the streets. But once you add an Akrapovic exhaust set-up, then, well, all bets are off. The Slovenian tuning firm and specialists in the science of exhaust systems has released a new package that not only gives the R8 V10 a new exhaust set-up, but a corresponding power increase to go with it. The new titanium Slip-On exhaust system comes with carbon tail pipes with an optional wireless kit to give the driver the option of controlling the sound of the exhaust for either street or track use. The exhaust not only reduces the R8’s overall weight by 16kg (35 lbs), but also bumps up the output of the car’s 5.2-liter V10 engine from the standard 525 horsepower and 391 lb/ft of torque to 536 horsepower at 6,800 rpm and 403 lb/ft of torque at 5,000 rpm. The result might not be all that much given the number of tuning packages already in existence for the R8 V10, but anytime a car that already has 525 ponies under its hood get some added output, it’s still something that’s going to attract its share of customers. | Spy Shots: Could this be the 2013 Porsche 911 Turbo S? Posted: 21 Jul 2011 02:00 AM PDT Just a couple of weeks ago, we caught the 2013 Porsche 911 Turbo testing and now it seems that we may have caught the hi-power version of the Turbo as well, the Porsche 911 Turbo S. All of the previous spy shots taken of the Turbo have shown two big single exhaust pipes, one on each side, but these new images reveal a quad pipe layout. The differing setups hint towards a higher-powered Turbo and, if it does turn out to be the Turbo S, could mean a boost of about 30-50 HP compared to the standard Turbo. This would mean that the Turbo S would be cranking out about 580-600 HP from its 3.8-liter flat-six engine, a good 50-70 HP boost over the current Turbo S. In terms of performance, this power boost means a 0-60 mph sprint time better than the current 3.1 seconds and a top speed peaking higher than 196 mph, quite possibly breaking the 200 mph mark. Aside from the power boost, much of everything else will stay the same. The engine will be mated to an improved manual gearbox as standard, or an optional Porsche-Doppelkupplung (PDK) gearbox. Porsche’s recent promotional video looks to have confirmed the rumors of seven gears for the PDK gearbox so expect too have these option for the Turbo S as well. Other features for the new Porsche 911 Turbo S will include brake regeneration and stop start systems which will help reduce fuel consumption by about 12%, quite possibly bringing it up to about 28 mpg.
