| Mercedes CLS 500 "The Big Black One" by Kicherer Posted: 10 Jul 2011 07:00 AM PDT Kicherer certainly outdid themselves this time. With a new tuning program for the Mercedes CLS 500 called the "Big Black One", the German tuning company has given us the full breadth of what the CLS is capable of. It’s got a cool nickname that immediately grabs your attention and a look that adds some aggression, but the best part is that it’s got pretty nasty performance upgrades that should make it more imposing than it already is. On it’s own, this Mercedes already packs quite a mean punch, thanks to a 4.6-liter V8 engine that produces an output of 402 horsepower and 443 lb/ft of torque. But thanks to a software update and the addition of a new sports exhaust system, Kicherer was able to bump up the output to 463 horsepower and 509 lb/ft of torque. On top of the engine improvements, the tuning company also installed their very own PowerConverter, allowing the car to have a faster jump out of the block than it normally would. A power upgrade with a speed boost? Sounds sweet to us. The car’s chassis was also given a HighEnd Foliation treatment in matte black and carbon to go with the addition of a set of of its own hand-made 20" RS-1 forged wheels. Usually, when anyone buys a high performance sports car, the first advice typically provided to them is to take a high performance driving course to learn how to handle the amount of power shooting out of it. If the driver of the sports car doesn’t heed to this warning then incidents like this can easily take place. A driver testing his Ferrari 458 Italia at the Vallelunga racetrack during the race of the Ferrari Club Italia lost control over his sports car and ran right smack into a wall. Luckily, the damages caused to his red 458 Italia are repairable. The Ferrari 458 Italia is powered by a 4,499 cc V8 engine that delivers a total of 570 HP at 9,000 rpm and a peak torque of 540 Nm at 6000 rpm. Top speed goes up to an impressive 201 mph so is no wonder people have trouble controlling it. | Video: Tiff Needell drives the Ferrari FF Posted: 09 Jul 2011 04:00 PM PDT
In their latest episode, Fifth Gear got the opportunity to drive the new Ferrari FF on the snowy mountains of the Plan De Corones in the Dolomites. Tiff Needell got behind the wheel after being airlifted up to 2,350 meters. Watch the video to see what he has to say about Ferrari’s new sports model. The Ferrari FF is powered by a 6.3 liter V12 engine that delivers a total of 651 HP at 8,000 rpm with a maximum torque of 503 lbs-ft at 6,000 rpm. Out of torque available for the sports car, 367 lbs-ft can be accessed from just 1,000 rpm. Mated to Ferrari’s patented 4RM four-wheel-drive system and a 7-speed transaxle dual-clutch F1 gearbox, the Ferrari FF goes from 0 to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds with a top speed of 207 mph.
