| Audi R-Stream V10 Spyder by Wheelsandmore Posted: 13 May 2011 09:00 AM PDT Back in 2010, German tuner, Wheelsandmore, dressed up an Audi R8 V10 Coupe after providing a smooth package for the V8 version the previous year, so it’s not shocking that the tuning firm is taking a stab at the R8 V10 Spyder for their latest project. The Audi R-Stream V10 Spyder was given a similar package as the previous two with optimized performance and an exceptional look. Wheelsandmore began their work on the engine with an ECU update and a new stainless steel, handcrafted high flow exhaust system with remotable valve flaps. These additions allow the sports car’s 5.2 Liter FSI V10 to produce an impressive 600 HP and 590 lb-ft of torque, up from the standard 525 HP. After the power upgrades were under control, the tuner moved on to the exterior. With a name like Wheelsandmore, an upgrade to the wheels was more than necessary. New lightweight, 3-piece forged 6Sporz² wheels wrapped in 45/30/20 tires from Continental were added and are available in a variety of colors. The front grille has also been painted in matte black and the tail pipes in black enamel. The final touch for the R-Stream V10 Spyder is the addition of an LCS (level-control-system) hydraulic lift up system that can provide an additional road clearance of up to 40mm. This will come in handy when having to go over those nasty speed bumps that seem to be popping up everywhere we look. | Ferrari 458 Italia crashes in UK; First topless model we don't want to see Posted: 13 May 2011 08:00 AM PDT When anyone first looks at the images provided, it would be really easy to venture a guess that this particular Ferrari 458 Italia owner just couldn’t wait for the Spyder version to debut. Unfortunately, the reality of this crash is much more tragic. A right-hand drive 458 Italia in the UK got into a little altercation with a truck and apparently, the fire department had to remove the roof to free the driver. Up until now, we can chalk this up to driver error, but it seems the driver of the Ferrari suffered an aneurysm right before the crash and is currently in intensive care. He had received his Ferrari 458 Italia just a few hours earlier. It’s really easy to blame the driver when beautiful models such as this are completely destroyed, but in this case, it’s a complete tragedy all around. After the series of fires that occurred with the 458 Italia when it first came out, we’re beginning to think that the car is cursed. Let’s just hope for all the Italia owners out there that this is not true. | Posted: 13 May 2011 06:00 AM PDT Porsche has been rather busy preparing their next round of new generation beauties, including the new Boxster and the future 911/991, but up until now, we haven’t seen any real information on the next generation Cayman. Revealed back in 2005, the Porsche Cayman will be entering its third generation in 2012, and recent spy shots reveal that the sports car is already undergoing extreme testing to prep it for its grand unveiling. Although everyone is now focusing on the aforementioned new generation 911 rumored to debut this year at the Frankfurt Motor Show, a lucky spy photographer had the chance to catch a Cayman prototype testing in southern Europe. This prototype is rumored to be built on a new lightweight, turbocharged four-cylinder platform that is being shared with the new Boxster. The exterior design will be much more fluid, will add a new level of sportiness, and will keep its hard-top configuration. Hit the jump for more details on the 2013 Porsche Cayman. | Lamborghini Gallardo Devastator by SR Project Posted: 13 May 2011 05:00 AM PDT Lamborghini is preparing to replace the current Gallardo in 2013 with an even more powerful car rumored to be called the Cabrera, but until that happens, we’ll be seeing tons of tuning packages for the current model. In fact, a lot of them will probably come from SR Auto Group who seem to gravitate towards the vehicle in every other project they undertake. Their latest kit is called the Devastator and, contrary to its title, doesn’t offer any additional power to disintegrate the competition. The new Gallardo Devastator features a simplistic design approach that is displayed with a matte black exterior finish to go along with the matte black PUR 2WO wheels. The whole darkened look is highlighted by massive golden brakes. That’s about it for the package and honestly, if this were any other car than this Gallardo or even an Audi R8, we’d be thoroughly disappointed. Of course, a vehicle that comes rocking a 560 HP V10 engine can get away with not getting its power boosted. | Aston Martin Vantage V8 by Wheelsandmore Posted: 13 May 2011 03:00 AM PDT German tuning specialists, Wheelsandmore, have taken an Aston Martin Vantage V8 as their next project, giving the British supercar a well-rounded set of upgrades that include a new set of wheels, a new suspension, and a slight increase in power. As the name of their company suggests, Wheelsandmore is no stranger to having some of the best rims on the market. For the Vantage V8, they decided to dress it up with a new set of handcrafted 21" three-piece 6Sporz² forged rims wrapped in 55/30/21 tires at the front, and 295/25/21 tires at the back. To go with the new set of gorgeous rims, Wheelsandmore also gave the Vantage V8 a new suspension kit courtesy of KW that comes with a rebound and compression adjustable stainless steel coilover suspension variant 3. Lastly, Wheelsandmore gave the supercar a new 200 sport catalysts and flip-controlled exhaust system, giving the Vantage’s 4.7 Liter V8 engine an increased output of 460 horsepower and 369 lb/ft of torque, up from the standard model’s 420-horsepower output. All told, it’s not the most extravagant tuning program done on the Aston Martin Vantage. But in terms of subtle improvements all the way around, this is about as beautiful as it gets without going overboard. | Porsche: New Headquarters in Atlanta Posted: 13 May 2011 02:00 AM PDT Throughout the past decade we have seen U.S. automakers shift much of their production process overseas, hurting the job market. Lowering costs is always at the forefront of a CEO’s mind, but now things have begun to shift back towards creating jobs for our citizens. Another trend has been building momentum as well, foreign automakers shifting production to the Southern United States. BMW and Mercedes both have large plants in the United States and have created thousands of jobs. Clearly, many other foreign brands also have operations in the United States even though that may not include production facilities. Porsche is a company that has a long standing U.S. headquarters in Atlanta, but it looks like they may be on the move. An Atlanta newspaper has suggested that Porsche will be opening a new headquarters facility in a former Ford Taurus plant purchased from the American automaker. The site is close to the Hartsfield-Atlanta Airport and has been closed down since the old plant was demolished. This will be no short process because Porsche seems to have big plans including a "Customer Experience Center," an off-road driving course and a test track with a 1.6 mile (2.6 km) long handling circuit. The companies world headquarters could provide some inspiration for this new location as well, considering that testing as well as business processes are handled at the world HQ. Porsche’s lease ends in 2013 at their current location so if this news is true then we would expect to start seeing construction in the next several months. This new facility would bring more jobs in marketing and sales to the region as well as keep the positions held at their current location. | 2012 Coda Sedan: Electric Cars for the People Posted: 12 May 2011 08:00 PM PDT Similar to how Henry Ford set out to make the automobile accessible for everyone in America; a small start-up company based in Santa Monica, CA intends to make the electric car affordable to all. Coda Automotive has been developing what they call a revolutionary new compact, full-electric car for less money than the competition. The past several years have been a struggle, but as with any start-up company, there are growing pains. At the beginning of 2011, the company had already raised $76 million dollars and is looking to end with a total of $200 million. Past CEOs of this fledgling carmaker are former Goldman Sachs executives that should have no problem finding the last chunk of capital. This year, Phil Murtaugh became the new CEO and can back up his credentials with former stints at Chrysler and General Motors. "We're getting our production tooling in order now. It all takes about six weeks to ship them over to the United States, so sometime in the fourth quarter, probably the late fourth quarter, we'll see cars going on sale in California," said Murtaugh. The car itself is less than stunning on the outside, but with fuel efficiency being at the forefront of many Californian’s minds, this car could be the easy answer. It should achieve 90 to 120 miles on a single charge and charge faster than its major competition. | Posted: 12 May 2011 12:00 PM PDT The automotive world is preparing for the ultimate gas price takeover and more and more start up companies are waiting to hit it big in the electric car business. Small start-up company, Delta Motorsport, is one of these hopefuls and their latest project, the Delta E-4 Coupe, has a winning combination of performance and electricity. The Delta E-4 Coupe is a very compact, light weight, low drag, 4-seat passenger car that the company has been working on since 2007. The idea behind this model was to build an ultra low energy vehicle, and not just a vehicle that provides low emissions. The company feels that any car can provide low emissions if run on batteries, but bigger automobiles - like the Audi Q7 or the BMW X5 - will still be depleting energy at a much faster rate than smaller, more lightweight vehicles. They go on further to explain that automakers, after creating all of these low emissions vehicle, will eventually have to focus more on reducing the energy used by these models. Enter the E-4 Coupe. It may not be the prettiest vehicle we’ve ever seen, but it is certainly impressive nonetheless with a carbon composite chassis that weighs only 187 lbs and high performance direct-drive electric motors that together can get the E-4 all the way up to a top speed of 150 mph. Want fast results? The E-4 Coupe can get from 0-60 mph in under five seconds. Get ready folks, the electric car phenomenon has just taken its next step. More details on the Delta E-4 Coupe after the jump. Delta E-4 Coupe originally appeared on topspeed.com on Thursday, 12 May 2011 19:00 EST. |
