| Posted: 19 May 2011 09:00 AM PDT While Pininfarina is busy designing models for Ferrari, concept designer Peter Norris is taking a break from his job in the video games and entertainment industry to design a future luxury sports car concept that is "clean, unfussy, elegant and fast." These attributes led him to the Pininfarina Coupe Concept, a front engined model combined with a rear wheel drive system. Norris’ design inspiration for the Pininfarina Coupe Concept came from the love of his very own Fiat Coupe 16v Turbo with some Ferrari lines thrown in to polish it over. The Pininfarina Coupe’s look is characterized by the ultra low roofline and the accentuated front and rear fenders. The sleek profile is exaggerated further with large wheels that visually shorten the height of the sports car. At the back of the Pininfarina are a set of C-shaped LED taillights. When talking about his concept, Peter Norris said: "much of my work is focused strongly on science fiction and the distant future, but with this project I wanted to create an elegant and unfussy design with classic lines that could be on the road today." "The Pininfarina styling inside as much as outside just oozes with Italian flair and really was, and still is different to anything else on the road. Some people have referred to it as a "baby Ferrari". Somehow we don’t see a luxury sports car like this toting around the 190 HP 2.0L 16V Turbo engine as seen on the Fiat Coupe, but since the Pininfarina Coupe Concept was also inspired by Ferrari, we’d love to see something along the lines of the 458 Italia’s 570 HP 4,499 cc V8 engine. Not a likely scenario, but we can dream. Pininfarina Coupe Concept originally appeared on topspeed.com on Thursday, 19 May 2011 16:00 EST. |
| Posted: 19 May 2011 08:00 AM PDT There’s an old saying that states, "If you want something done right, do it yourself." While the millions of people that have uttered that phrase a time or two mostly do it when co-workers screw something up or when something at home goes array, Yannick Sire of Sire Performance Custom Performance in Inglewood, CA meant it on a much bigger scale. He didn’t want to provide better landscaping or execute a perfect parallel parking job; he wanted to build a car. And not just any car, he wanted to build the perfect hot rod. A few years - and some spare parts and elbow grease - later, Sire had hand built himself a car that he felt earned the name of Priapism. Priapism is actually a medical condition that was named after the Greek god Priapus who was known for his disproportionately large and permanent ----. Go ahead and look it up; you know you want to. But whatever its name translates into, the Sire Priapism has got some balls in the form of two Chevrolet 350 small block engines producing a total of 1000 HP. Adding that power to a comfortable 2,370 lbs car gave Sire a hot rod worth getting into. Hit the jump for details on the Yannick Sire Priapism. | Posted: 19 May 2011 07:00 AM PDT There’s been talk about an Audi Q6 as far back as 2006 when it was reported that the company had registered the name in Europe. Nothing much was said until two years later when it was reported that its underpinnings would be shared with the Porsche Cayenne to get it ready to do battle with the BMW X6. The Q6 went back into news hibernation for a few more years and now we’ve come across more information to prep us for the coupe-like SUV’s entrance into the market around 2014. As far as we can tell, the Audi Q6 will be slotted between the Q5 and the Q7, and will share its underpinnings with the Q7 and Porsche Cayenne. It will be offered with a variation of gas and diesel engines, plus a hybrid option as seen in the Cayenne. The top of the line model is rumored to be called the Q6 RS and may share the turbocharged 4.0L V8 engine as seen on the new generation RS6. That’s all we have at this point, but we’ll pass along more details on the future Q6 as soon as we get them. Audi Q6 originally appeared on topspeed.com on Thursday, 19 May 2011 14:00 EST. |
| Ferrari Super America 45 by Pininfarina Posted: 19 May 2011 06:00 AM PDT Pininfarina and Ferrari are two companies in the automotive industry that live and breathe pure excellence. Match them up with one of the most luxurious events of the year - the Villa d Este Concorso D’Eleganza - and the outcome is a one-off model based on either the 599 GTB Fiorano or the P540 Superfast Aperta (pictured). Rivaling previous years’ debuts like the BMW M1 Homage and the Alfa Romeo TZ3 Corsa by Zagato, the Ferrari Super America 45 by Pininfarina is a project that was specially requested by a client from New York. It is described as a "convertible, 6 cilindri, 6000 ccm" model. While we only have the first details at the momemt, the official press release says: "A recent and fascinating trend in the rarefied world of top end Ferrari collectors is the commissioning of one off bespoke version of high end models from Italian coach builders. Several 'special clients' have approached Pininfarina (and others) in recent years to build uniquely styled cars, an idea that goes back to the fifties went customers like film director Roberto Rossellini had a special car built for his wife, Ingrid Bergman. The Villa d Este is the natural setting for the exposure of such special vehicles and as well as the Glickenhaus P4/5 this year we have this very special Ferrari Super America belong to the New York." UPDATE 05/19/2011: Ferrari has unveiled the first official details on the Superamerica 45 - another one-off model that will make its world debut this weekend at the Villa d'Este Concorso d'Eleganza. The model will be distinguished by a carbon-fiber rotating hard-top with a rear screen, body colored rear buttresses, double air vents on the front wing, a specific chromed front grille and special burnished aluminum A-pillars, wing mirrors, and door handles. The model will be painted in an exclusive Blu Antille, contrasting with darker blue on the front splitter, side skirts, and rear diffuser. For the interior, the Superamerica 45 gets Cuoio leather trim and Blu Scuro carbon fiber details, plus the latest-generation touch-screen infotainment system. | Lamborghini Murcielago GT by DMC Posted: 19 May 2011 05:00 AM PDT Just because Lamborghini has a new toy in the Aventador, it doesn't mean that tuning firms are beginning to turn a blind eye on the Italian automaker's other models. One such aftermarket company is DMC, which is on tap to introduce their latest styling package for the Murcielago LP580 GT. The overall design make-up of the Murcielago includes fitting the Italian supercar with a full carbon fiber body kit that comes with an all-new carbon fiber front fascia and a new rear bumper on the exterior of the car. Inside the Murcielago, DMC continued with the carbon fiber treatment, outfitting it with the same material to go with new custom leather upholstery. Not one to leave behind improvements on the performance department, DMC also gave the Murcielago a little engine tweaking with the inclusion of a new stainless steel sport exhaust system and a remapped ECU unit, boosting the output of the supercar's 6.2-liter V12 engine to 600 horsepower and a 365 lb/ft of torque, a jump up of 28 ponies and 12 lb/ft of torque from the standard model. It's not the biggest performance upgrade we've seen for a Murcielago, but combined with all the carbon fiber goodies given to the exterior and interior of the car, the overall package looks mighty impressive on our end. | Hyundai Genesis Prada Limited Edition Posted: 19 May 2011 03:00 AM PDT Technically, this is not the first time the Hyundai Genesis will be wearing Prada, but it seems that people enjoyed the whole collaboration between the Korean automaker and the Italian fashion house. For this installment, Hyundai used a 2012 Genesis and is positioning it as one of the most luxurious models the company has ever built. Aesthetically, the Genesis Prada will be offered in three colors – Black Nero, Blue Baltico, and Brown Moro – and will include a host of other items, including distinguishable dark chrome accents, a new "shark-fin" antenna, a limited Genesis Prada badge and GP500 emblem, and a set of 19" alloy wheels. Inside, the Genesis Prada will be dressed with "Saffiano" leather – Prada's signature top quality leather - upholstery with a piano black trim and a new rear entertainment system. As for performance, the Genesis Prada will be powered by a 5.0-liter V8 engine that produces 424 horsepower and 376 lb/ft of torque and is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Hyundai will be offering the Genesis Prada through customized personal orders. The initial plan is to have only 1,200 units of the car, distributed mostly in the Korean market with a limited number of models headed to the rest of Asia and the Middle East. | Mercedes SLS AMG by MAE Design Posted: 19 May 2011 02:00 AM PDT We’ve never heard of MAE Design, but apparently they just got some new management in the form of Yuksel Akkus, the official license holder for the company in Germany. Now that all that has been taken care of, the company has moved into the working portion of business with a new tuning package for the Mercedes SLS AMG. Not much was done to the sports car, but who can resist more images of the SLS AMG? The most obvious modifications to the sports car are the appropriately named Crownia wheels. They measure 9.5 and 11.5x22 inches and are wrapped in 315/25 rear tires and 265/30 front tires. These new wheels are a work in progress and more sizes and bolt circles will become available in the next few years. Apart from the flashy wheels, the Mercedes will also receive a new lowering module for serial air-suspension car bodies that can be remote-controlled using the phone buttons on the steering wheel. With the touch of a button, drivers can glide over that speed bump without nicking their fancy ride. A new stainless steel exhaust system is also available and is offered in three different volume stages. The engine for the Mercedes SLS AMG was left untouched so we’re still looking at a a 6.3-liter V8 located front-mid that will develop 571 hp and up to 479 lb-ft. of torque. | Lotus drops plans for Elan; Moves forward with other models Posted: 18 May 2011 12:00 PM PDT At the 2010 Paris Auto Show, Lotus unveiled the impressive Elan concept with the full intention of bringing it back in production form by 2013. Be it blind passion or just a mere oversight, Lotus failed to notice that their new concept bared a strong resemblance to their Evora model, so the company is putting the concept on hold indefinitely. This may sound a little familiar considering we had already heard that the Elan was headed back to the drawing board for looking too much like the Esprit Concept revealed at the same auto show. This begs the question as to whether or not the Esprit will also be delayed because of the same issue, but apparently that is not the case. The Esprit and the Elite will share many of the same components, including a V8 engine that is rumored to deliver around 550 horsepower. This engine will be mated to either a standard dual-clutch transmission or an optional manual. However, before those puppies are born, Lotus will be working on updating the apparently inspiring Evora with some aesthetic changes and new trim levels to align it with the rest of the "Lotus New Era" range. The Elise and Exige will also be seeing the light of day, but will do so with newer versions "more usable for every day". The production Exige will finally be revealed at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. | Posted: 18 May 2011 11:00 AM PDT Sometimes even dealerships get in on the tuning action, putting together packages to pull in some extra revenue and make up for lackluster sales. Currently, the most powerful Camaro offered by Chevrolet is the 550 HP ZL1, but Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet has perked up our ears with their Camaro Intimidator developing 704 HP. The name chosen for this special edition could not be more appropriate considering it houses a supercharged V8 engine that produces an intimidating 704hp and 695 lbs-ft of torque at 11psi boost. Bumps and bruises will be absorbed with a highly modified suspension and chassis, while the new exhaust system, brakes, and fuel system will take care of everything else. The added power is also illustrated on the exterior of the muscle car with a racing inspired, aluminum blade spoiler with support braces and a more modern racing splitter with support braces for improved downforce. The newly appointed front induction hood will let air flow freely through the hardworking engine and the 6LE Designs white faced gauges will inform the driver of the progress made by that same engine. Other features of the Camaro Intimidator are the classic looking heritage grille, afterburner tail lamps, chrome plated Intimidator badges, and the chrome wheels with the word Intimidator engraved on a spoke. All in all, these are great additions to the Camaro. We can only think of one other tuning project for this car that we would prefer and that is the Camaro by Baldwin Motion. Their top level package cranks out a blissful 800 HP. Of course, that package empties your bank account by $150,000, while the Camaro Intimidator only costs $79,993. Hit the jump for the full specifications. Chevrolet Camaro Intimidator originally appeared on topspeed.com on Wednesday, 18 May 2011 18:00 EST. |
