| Kanye West drives Mercedes SLR Stirling Moss at Cannes Posted: 21 May 2011 05:00 AM PDT The Mercedes SLR Stirling Moss is limited to only 75 units, so to see one actually outside of an air conditioned and secured garage is a spectacular treat for the eye. Then the fact that it is being driven by American rapper, singer, and record producer, Kanye West gets thrown in and we’re not sure to sit and ogle or pay for the experience. Kanye was living the high life at the Cannes Film Festival when he got a chance to stroll around in the $1.06 million vehicle. Whether the car is his or he just borrowed it for the day - rich people get to do that - the star sure seemed to fit right into the leather-trimmed interior. The Mercedes SLS Stirling Moss is powered by a 5.5-liter supercharged V8 from the 722 SLR, which makes 650 hp. Without a windshield, this roadster can still hit a rip-your-face-off top speed of 217 mph. The 0-60 mph sprint can be made in less than 3.5 seconds. With this type of speed and no windscreen or roof, Kanye may need a little more than those dark sunglasses to shield him from the whiplash he’s sure to get when he gets the SLR out on the open road. | Ferrari Concours Event: May 22, 2011 Posted: 20 May 2011 11:00 PM PDT Any time multiple Ferraris can be found together in the same place is exciting; when there is a reported $100,000,000 worth of Ferraris, its downright spectacular! This weekend a collection of vintage and late model Ferraris will be showcased on the famed Colorado Boulevard in Pasadena, CA. The Ferrari Club of North America is putting on the event and it will be open to the public for your viewing pleasure. In attendance last year were nearly 100 vintage Ferrari models covering the entirety of Colorado Boulevard for several blocks. Ferrari has always been known to create the most innovative and spectacular sports cars the world has ever seen. For the most part, only the super rich can afford the rarer and prized models, but this weekend will give the average Joe a chance to see them all. In attendance last year was a Pebble Beach Councours winner - 250 Series I Cabriolet - and other best in show cars such as the Agnelli 400 SA which came from the Museum in Maranello. | Posted: 20 May 2011 08:06 PM PDT Back in the ’30s BMW unveiled the 328 - the most successful and best-looking sports car of the moment. The car’s success was given by its impressive design parameters: systematic lightweight construction, aerodynamic lines, opti-mum engine types and outstanding suspension technology. And as a celebration of the car’s 75th anniversary BMW will unveil at this year’s Mille Miglia the 328 Hommage, a model that translates the principles and the character of the vehicle of that time into present times and offers a possible interpretation of how the designers of that time, Fritz Fiedler and Rudolf Schleicher, might have built the BMW 328 in the present day using current technology. "With the BMW 328 Hommage, we wish to pay homage to the passion and inventiveness of the fathers of the BMW 328", explains Karl Bäumer, CEO of BMW Group Classic. "They created an icon, which is consid-ered a milestone in the history of the automobile." Hit the jump to read more about the BMW 328 Hommage. | Posted: 20 May 2011 12:00 PM PDT Now, we know we have already seen two concepts- FT-86 and FT-86 II - for this vehicle, but will have to endure one more as Toyota has brought us yet another FT-86 concept. This time it has been revealed at the New York Auto Show under the Scion badge and it won't go into production until Toyota finally brings their production version later this year at the Tokyo Motor Show. The Scion FR-S Concept is a preview version of a new model coming to the Scion brand next year. "Scion is always experimenting with new things," said Jack Hollis, Scion vice president. "The brand is iconic with the xB, adrenalized by the tC, and groundbreaking with the iQ. The FR-S will expand the brand into yet another new dimension that I know it is truly destined for." Like with the other Toyota model, the Scion model is being inspired by the AE86 generation of the Corolla, better known as the Hachi-Roku, meaning "8-6" in Japanese. The concept is being built on a rear-wheel-drive platform and is powered by a 2.0-liter boxer front engine that can be mated with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission. UPDATE 04/28/2011: Toyota has revealed a new video showing off the Scion FR-S concept’s revving engine. The sound should be the same or very similar for all three Scion FR-S / Toyota-Subaru FT-86 cars since they will all feature the same Boxer engine and exhaust setup. Hit the jump for the video. UPDATE 05/20/2011: Testing is still underway for the Scion FR-S, and while it was circling the track, spy photographers were able to get a shot of the newly fitted and massive wing attached to the back. Seems a little exaggerated to us, but hey, we’ve waited so long to see this car in action that we will take just about anything they throw at us at this point. Check out the video after the jump.
