Video: Microsoft Kinect to be integrated into Forza 4

Posted: 04 Jun 2011 05:00 AM PDT

There’s no question that the pinnacle of racing video games is still Gran Turismo 5, but its Xbox counterpart, Forza 4, is giving the long-standing champion a serious run for its pixels.

The latest edition of the Forza franchise promises to be slicker and more awesome than its predecessors with Microsoft offering a few new additions and surprises, the most important being the inclusion of their breathtaking new tie-in: the Kinect.

The Kinect system allows gamers to be able to play games without the use of any controllers. As a system that takes into account the player’s movements, the integration of Kinect to Forza 4 allows gamers to race their cars simply by putting their hands in the "10 and 2 o’clock positions" and navigating the steering wheel as such. All the movements - be it bobs, weaves, or side glances - is captured by Kinect. In addition to that, the whole system integration also allows for us to take walking tours of our cars, including opening the doors and hopping inside.

Needless to say, the whole Kinect-factor for Forza 4 is a huge bonus for the game as it continues its ascent to the top of the auto racing video game ladder.

Check out another video after the jump.

Video: More Powerful Renault Megane RS Teased

Posted: 03 Jun 2011 11:00 PM PDT

Renault Sport has released a teaser video of a new Megane RS model that, according to the first details, will be the quickest Megane ever. The video was filmed at the Nurburgring race track where the car seems to handle itself well making its trip around the circuit. We doubt this more powerful model will try to smash any Nurburgring records, but at the very least we’ll get a spicier version of the Megane. Maybe even a special edition Megane RS Nurburgring Edition.

The standard Megane Renault Sport is powered by a new-generation 2-liter 16-valve turbocharged petrol engine that delivers a total of 250hp at 5,500rpm and peak torque of 250 lb-ft from 3,000rpm. Expect the new model to be more powerful than this with a few added features.

The speedier Megane RS is expected to make its world debut on June 17, 2011, so stay with us to find out more details!

Video: Riding a Kawasaki KLR650 in Panama

Posted: 03 Jun 2011 01:00 PM PDT

Every once in awhile, it’s good to push all worries out of your head and do something you enjoy just for the sake of enjoying it. Too many times, many of us get wrapped up in the trials and tribulations of everyday life and we just forget to sit back and take in all of the good things around us.

That being said, we could learn a lot from the gentleman in this video. This guy loves his motorcycle and decided that he wanted to explore the world around him. Thankfully, he brought his video camera along with him to capture his journey through the beaches and mountains of Panama, even catching a glimpse of the bridge of the Americas which crosses the Panama Canal.

This unknown man says, "I love riding motorcycles, any kind of motorcycle. It just so happens that right now I have a KLR650, and in my mind that means it must be the best motorcycle in the world. In time I will get a different motorcycle, and it will become the best motorcycle in the world. This film is about loving, and riding what you have now. Stop worrying about not being able to afford your dream bike, and just enjoy this moment with whatever motorcycle you may have."

Now it’s time to take his advice, sit back, and enjoy his journey. After that, go out and enjoy your won journey.

Mercedes BLK

Posted: 03 Jun 2011 12:00 PM PDT

Mercedes started teasing the idea of developing a BLK model back when BMW announced the X1 and Audi divulged the Q3 crossover. It was a particular market that Mercedes couldn’t compete in for lack of a vehicle, and since the GLK turned out to be a good idea, why not fill the void in the competing market by sliding a model right underneath it?

The new BLK, set to be released sometime in 2013, will be built on the same MFA architecture (Mercedes Front-wheel drive architecture) as the next generation A- and B-Class. We expect to see a design language inspired by the Concept A-Class revealed earlier this year, but adapted to a production version model. The interior will combine the latest technologies and will offer enough room for about five-people.

Under the hood, expect to see the same engines used for the A- and B-Class, with a possible hybrid variant. This means we will see two different four-cylinder engines - a 170 HP 2.2 liter engine and a 204 HP 2.0 liter -, both offered with 4MATIC technologies. We may also see a turbocharged 2.0-liter gasoline engine with about 240 HP and the European market will get its usual diesel line-up.

Availability is still a question, but since Mercedes is allowing the A-Class to find its way on over to the US market, we’re thinking we may get a chance to drive the BLK as well. If we do see it on our side of the pond, prices will be set at about $30K ($5,000 less than the GLK).

Arash AF-8 scale model previews production version

Posted: 03 Jun 2011 11:00 AM PDT

Arash Farboud made its first step out into the market with the AF-10 back in 2009 and since then, rumors about an AF-8 model started making their way around the circuit. Not much has sprouted from the rooted rumors, but our confirmation for the super car has finally come in the form of an AF-8 scale model. This scale AF-8 - designed by Bujär Muharremi and Toby Mellor - showed up at the annual Coventry University Automotive Design degree show in UK and previews the final design of the production model scheduled to be revealed at next year's Geneva Motor Show.

The AF-8 production model will be powered by a Corvette V8 engine producing as much as 700 bhp. When it goes on sale, it will do so with a price tag of about $200,000. By comparison, the AF-10 is powered by a 7.0-liter LS7 Corvette Z06-sourced engine, which produces 550 HP and 475 lb/ft of torque and is capable of hitting a top speed of 205 mph. Recently, an AF-10 supercar was sold for an impressive $2 million.
