| TopSpeed Rendering: 2013 Jaguar XKR-S Convertible Posted: 21 Jun 2011 09:00 AM PDT Jaguar has made it perfectly clear that they plan on offering the same treatment found in the XKR-S to other models in the line-up. Our first attack on the rendering front was the future XFR-S, but now it’s time to see the upcoming XKR-S Convertible which will actually arrive before the XFR-S. The design of the convertible XKR-S really won’t change much from the coupe model. The XKR-S was originally designed as a convertible anyway so expect to see the same wide wheel arches, front and rear carbon spoilers, and extra front air scoops as found on the coupe. Under the hood, Jaguar will keep the same AJ-V8 all-aluminum engine with an output of 550 HP and 501 lb/ft of torque, so the sprint from 0 to 60 mph will remain in the 4 second range, while top speed will also be about 180 mph. Think the XKR-S Convertible will be just as popular as the Coupe version? Hit us up in the comments section below. | Birdman's New Ride: $2 million Bugatti Veyron Posted: 21 Jun 2011 08:00 AM PDT It seems that Birdman aka Bryan Williams has already grown tired of the Exelero he purchased back in February. The American rapper recently purchased yet another vehicle to add to his collection and, although his new Bugatti Veyron isn’t as expensive as the Exelero, it’s equally as impressive. The rapper seems to have a thing for the color red too, as his $2 million fire flame red Veyron matches his red helicopter. According to Birdman "red is a fly color. It’s hot; represents heat. It’s the flyest color out there and it just blinds me." Hopefully the color won’t blind him too much considering he’ll now be sitting in a 1001 HP quad-turbocharged W16 supercar. The funny part about that is the rapper insists he is not one of those guys that likes speed: "I’ve gone on the interstate and busted, maybe, 160 [mph] going to the Heat game. Besides that, I don’t really play with speed. I ain’t one of them that play in that world. I do like it ’cause it’s fly and the fastest car in the world and it’s expensive, but I don’t like playing with too much speed." Somehow, we don’t believe that, but we’ll give him the benefit of the doubt for now. However, he can bet on the fact that we’ll be watching closely for his next speeding ticket. | Posted: 15 Jun 2011 07:00 AM PDT Just a few months before the car’s official debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show, BMW has decided it was time to reveal the official specs on the fifth generation M5 sports sedan. After seeing the first concept version at the 2011 Shanghai Motor Show, now we can see the M5 in all its glory. And we sure like what we are seeing. The M5 name was used for the first time back in 1984, but since then, the car has evolved into an impressive sedan that combines track potential with the comprehensive practicality of a luxurious business sedan. The new generation brings a high-revving 4.4-liter V8 engine with an M TwinPower Turbo package that delivers an impressive 560 hp at 6,000 – 7,000 rpm and a peak torque of 502 lb-ft from 1,500 rpm. The model will sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds and, when the speed limiter is removed, is capable of hitting an impressive top speed of 190 mph. Despite these impressive performance numbers, the car will deliver an estimated fuel economy of 28.5 mpg. UPDATE 06/20/11: The BMW M5’s online configurator has just gone live, but our advice is to wait a bit longer before spending some quality time and effort building your model. So far, BMW is only allowing potential customers a couple of options to choose from, including exterior colors and a couple of wheel options. New exterior colors consist of Alpine White, Black Sapphire Metallic, Havana, Silverstone, Space Grey, Imperial Blue, Grey Singapore and Monte Carlo Blue. The only two wheel options available are Double spoke style - 345 M and 343 M. Still interested? Configure your BMW M5 by clicking here. More details about the BMW M5 after the jump. | Posted: 21 Jun 2011 06:00 AM PDT Generally speaking, Ferraris are some of the few models in the world that shouldn’t be touched by tuners. However, when it comes to the FF our opinion varies a bit due to the fact that it’s by far one of the most... hmm, let’s say "not well done" Ferraris ever. Basically, it’s just plain ugly so we were ecstatic to see that German tuner, DMC, had already started working on revising the model. There’s not much they could do for the overall look of the sports coupe, but the added power sure makes it a bit more enticing. They say a good personality can override horrendous looks, and we agree, but a great personality helps that much more. Taking that into consideration, DMC added a new set of twin superchargers, a new exhaust system with 90 mm tailpipes, a new intake manifold, larger fuel-injectors, high-flow air filters and a large intercooler to achieve an extra 216 HP out of the ugly duckling. Now the 660 HP V12 engine found in the standard FF can deliver a mind-blowing 876 HP and 636 lb-ft of torque. The 0 to 60 mph sprint can now be made in 3.2 seconds, while top speed will go up to more than 211 mph. Hit the jump for more details on the Ferrari FF by DMC. | Posted: 21 Jun 2011 05:00 AM PDT With all the record-breaking attempts taking place at an increasing rate these days, it only seems fair to bring to everyone’s attention the latest attempt at a new record. As a way of celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Renault4, Renault is offering its services to a team that call themselves the "Triplets de Bonneville". The team is looking to earn the title of being the fastest Renault4 ever built at the Bonneville Speed Week this coming August. As a car that was first introduced back in 1961, the Renault4’s production lasted for three decades before it ended in 1992. In its time, the Renault4 developed a world-wide following, a legion of enthusiasts that are looking to celebrate the vehicle’s 50th anniversary with the kind of bang a car of this stature deserves, at least in the eyes of these guys. As for the record-seeking, fully modified Renault4 that will attempt to be the fastest of its kind, it will be powered with a Renault 5 Turbo-sourced turbocharged engine that served in active competition at the French Touring Car Championship in 1983. This engine will be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission from a Renault 25 GTX Turbo and brakes from the Renault 25 (front) and Clio (rear). The car comes with an output of 290 horsepower and a top speed of 280 km/h, or about 174 mph, giving it as good a shot as any to be the fastest of its kind in the world. In terms of safety, the Boneville Racer will receive a roll cage and a fire extinguisher, as well as a special harness, single bucket seats, and a braking parachute. | Posted: 21 Jun 2011 04:00 AM PDT Only one day after BMW announced the official details on the new generation 1-Series, Mini has also joined in on the party by releasing details of their own for their much anticipated Mini Coupe . Last seen at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2009 as a mere concept, the first two-seater in the company’s lineup will make its world debut at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show with sales to begin shortly after. Prices will be announced at a later date. The new Mini Coupe will come sporting an entire lineup of four cylinder engines ranging from the base Coupe with 121 HP up to the John Cooper Works Coupe with 208 HP. It will also be the fastest-accelerating MINI ever with the highest top speed. The JCW Coupe, for example, will sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 6.1 seconds and will be capable of a top speed of 149 mph. UPDATE 06/21/2011: Mini has revealed the official images for their latest model in the line-up, as well as pricing details for the American market. | Posted: 21 Jun 2011 03:00 AM PDT Since Land Rover received such positive feedback on their new three and five-door Range Rover Evoque models, the company may be looking into adding a fourth (don’t forget about the Range Rover Sport) model to their lineup. That will be a supersized Evoque with a side order of sportiness, please. That’s right, one of the vehicles currently in discussion is called the "Grand Evoque" which will be placed between the Range Rover Evoque and the Range Rover Sport. This new model will be built on Land Rover's new LR-MS platform - the same platform that will be used for the future Jaguar SUV model - and will feature an aggressively sporty appearance and considerable interior space, especially in the rear. The Grand Evoque is expected to carry the same front-wheel drive system as found in the original Evoque, with a choice of 2.2-liter diesel and 2.0-liter petrol engines. Expect to see the Land Rover Grand Evoque in the next two or three years, specifically for the USA and Chinese markets where the market for bigger SUVs continues to grow. Prices should start at around £35, 000, or about $56,000 at the current rates. Land Rover Grand Evoque originally appeared on topspeed.com on Tuesday, 21 June 2011 10:00 EST. |
| The Veyron Maintenance: Keeping the Bugatti supercar in top shape will burn your pockets Posted: 21 Jun 2011 02:00 AM PDT You know that time of the month when the bills arrive and you immediately have this sinking feeling in your stomach? While we continuously fret about the rising costs of gas and electric bills, imagine the cringe coming out of the faces of people who own a Bugatti Veyron. You see, there are bills to pay and then there are Veyron maintenance bills to pay. Some of you might say that people who own a Veyron need not worry about the maintenance it costs to keep one in tip-top shape considering they had the money to buy one in the first place. Although that may be true, it doesn’t make the whole scenario any cheaper. For starters - and we advise everybody to grab their seats first - a routine service for the Veyron runs up to around £13,000, which is around $21,000 based on current exchange rates. Yeah, for every time you bring the Veyron to the shop - we’re guessing around four to six times a year - you can actually buy a Mercedes E63 AMG...every year. If you thought that was it, buckle down, people. Continued after the jump. | Porsche 911 GT3 by Autodynamica Performance Posted: 20 Jun 2011 12:00 PM PDT Trying to figure out which subject in these photos is the bigger star is a little unsettling so we’ll give a little information on both to satiate the automotive and carnal desires that are surely present. The sexy lady in the photos is model Shellee Nemechek who hails from Texas and the vehicle placed directly behind her is the beautiful Porsche GT3 modified by AutoDynamica, also out of Texas. Now that that’s covered, let’s move on to the real business. What’s this Porsche GT3 all about? The tuning package provided by the American tuner isn’t exactly the tuning package to end all tuning packages, but it has its flair. It carries an electric program for the engine ($1,400) that was measured at the wheels on a Mustang Dynamometer four-wheel drive at 500 hp (a standard GT3 delivers 435 HP). Next to the engine update, AutoDynamica is also offering a new set of Brembo brakes ($4,990), a new exhaust system ($4,075), and a new set of wheels, offered in any size from 19" to 21" ($2345). Like we said, it’s not the best tuning package for a Porsche, but they were smart enough to put the beautiful Ms. Nemecheck in the pictures, so it’s all worth it. | Aston Martin Rapide doing double duty at Nurburgring and Nevada Posted: 20 Jun 2011 11:00 AM PDT It looks like the V12 Zagato Racer won’t be the only Aston Martin model participating in the Nürburgring 24-hour race in Europe and the Spring Mountain 24 hours in Nevada. The Rapide will also be making its presence known at the race, first to demonstrate the durability of Aston Martin's four door sports coupe, then to help raise money for charity. Surely this has something to do with the fact that the company has been experiencing slow demand for the luxury sports sedan and has since chopped production for the Rapide from 2,000 units all the way down to 1,250 per year. Since they took care of cutting costs - Step One - we’ll do our part in helping them out with Step Two: Marketing. Julian Jenkins from Aston Martin the Americas, said: "Since its launch, the Rapide has been popular with customers looking for an exclusive sports car with a combination of exhilarating performance, handcrafted style, and added four-door practicality. As well as raising money for Heart for Japan, this 24-hour initiative will give us an opportunity to showcase the endurance capabilities of the Rapide which in turn demonstrates its everyday usability and durability." "We're truly excited to participate in this challenge. Since the Rapide made its racing debut at last year's 24-hour race at the Nurburgring, we wondered how a street version would compare if driven continuously for a day over a closed circuit. Seeing how close we can get to the race distance covered last year will be an excellent measure of the car's real-world performance." The Rapide is going to need all of the publicity it can get in order to jumpstart the vehicle’s reputation once again. It shouldn’t be too difficult, though. We are talking about an Aston Martin after all. Aston Martin Rapide doing double duty at Nurburgring and Nevada originally appeared on topspeed.com on Monday, 20 June 2011 18:00 EST. |
