Just like us, all cars have an expiration date. Now, if your car has reached it’s last leg, you could take it to the nearest dumpster. Or you could get creative and donate it to some cause, like say, the Commonwealth Second Amendment (Comm2A), a group that aims to "bring some sanity to Massachusetts gun laws. Here’s a Porsche 911, or rather, a completely disheveled 911 with a dead engine and a $20,000 repair bill staring at its owner’s face. Instead of swallowing his pride and forking over the dough to repair the sports car, the owner decided to donate the car to Comm2A, a non-profit organization that aims to protect gun rights. For their part, the people of Comm2A seemed to have a pretty good idea on what to do with the 911: pepper it with as many gun shots as humanly possible. Might sound like a crime to do to a car like the Porsche 911, but according to Comm2A, the car really had no other purpose; its condition was bad enough that you couldn’t even sell off the parts individually. So instead of salvaging it, might as well give it some kind of send-off, right? Continued after the jump, including videos of the carnage. | Video: Chevrolet Racing Track to Street Season 2 Episode 5 Posted: 24 Jun 2011 11:00 PM PDT
In Chevrolet’s latest Track to Street series, Corvette Racing takes us along on a hot lap around the LeMans track. This is the very same track where driver Oliver Gavin received first place in the GTE Pro division of the 24h endurance race a little over a week ago. In addition to the lap around the track, Chevrolet has also provided a second video featuring in depth interviews with drivers like Richard Westbrook as they describe what it’s like to be on and off the track. This video came out before the team’s win at LeMans, but after watching the Gavin make the quick lap around LeMans, it seemed necessary to go into the the team’s preparations for the 24 hour long event. Let’s just say that we envy the thrill of being a part of such a famous event, but are in awe of the endurance these drivers have to have in order to complete the race. One more video after the jump. Volkswagen’s predicted domination of the automotive world just launched its next attack with three production versions of the Volkswagen Bluesport concept. According to Volkswagen, the BlueSport will see three different levels of performance illustrated in three different badges: Volkswagen, Audi, and Porsche. It can go without saying that the Porsche model will be the most powerful and, up until now, it was just known as the "baby Boxster." Well, that baby Boxster has finally been named. Say hello to the future Porsche 550. The "550" name was first used in 1953 (see picture above) when Porsche unveiled a sports car inspired by the legendary 356. At that time, the 550 was not considered a successor for the 356, but Porsche’s future 550 will more than likely carry that title. The new 550 will be the first model to be built on Porsche’s new sports car architecture and will be offered with a mid-mounted, turbocharged 1.6-liter engine that will deliver around 200 HP. This engine will be mated to a dual-clutch seven speed transmission. The future 550 will be launched in 2014 and, on the European market, will be priced about €8,000 ($11,500 at the current exchange rates) less than the current Boxster. That difference accounts for about 20% of the current Boxster’s price tag, which means our fellow Americans will have to pay about $38,000 to purchase it. | Final Bugatti Veyron 16.4 sold to a customer in Europe Posted: 24 Jun 2011 12:00 PM PDT  If there was ever a time for Shelby Super Cars to ramp up their efforts in overtaking the Bugatti, now would be that time. Bugatti just announced that the final unit of the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport has been sold. Okay, maybe not sold, but it has been ordered by a customer in Europe who will take delivery of his supercar next autumn. With the last of the 300 units sold, Bugatti will cease production of the supercar, at least in its hard top version. The company will still produce the vehicle in the Grand Sport trim. "In the Veyron the Bugatti team has created a vehicle that has already become an icon of automotive history. Both technologically and in terms of design, the Veyron is still far ahead of its time. The Grand Sport is a further pinnacle of achievement in the open-top sports car segment, and we intend to maintain the same standard in our future Bugatti products," said Wolfgang Dürheimer, President of Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S. Aside from the Grand Sport, Bugatti may also be working on producing the Galibier sedan under the Royale name. | Cake Boss tackles a Transformers Bumblebee Camaro Cake Posted: 24 Jun 2011 11:00 AM PDT
We’ve seen plenty of tuning projects that have transformed a standard Chevrolet Camaro into the vocally-challenged Bumblebee Autobot, but this latest creation is a lot tastier...literally. In a delicious and strategic marketing maneuver, Cake Boss, Buddy Valestro has baked a giant Transformers: Dark of the Moon cake featuring the yellow Chevrolet Camaro. Valestro supposedly got the idea for baking the 2,000 lb pastry after driving the brand new Camaro, but something tells us TLC (the channel that airs Cake Boss), Paramount, and Chevrolet had ulterior motives for developing the giant, edible Autobot. We’re not knocking them for the idea, though. This is certainly the yummiest marketing campaign we’ve ever seen. Make sure you check out Transformers: Dark of the Moon when it comes to theaters on June 29, 2011. And hey, while we’re at it, make sure you check out Cake Boss when it airs on Mondays at 9pm and remember to swing by a Chevrolet dealership to test drive the Camaro and its 300HP, 3.6L direct-injected V-6 engine. For the past eight years, Audi has created a special model to be auctioned off at the EJAF White Tie & Tiara Ball. Last year, Elton John’s charity was able to pull in £350,000 (about $522,500 at the current rates) by auctioning off the pink Audi A1 designed by renowned British artist Damien Hirst. This year, Audi doubled its efforts by providing not one, but two one-off chromed R8 Spyders for the auction, one from Audi Group Germany and one from Audi UK. In total, the two cars were auctioned off for an impressive £620,000 - or almost $1 million at the current exchange rates. The chrome look is something we’ve seen before on an Audi R8. The German automaker brought a chrome-domed R8 5.2 FSI V10 coupe to the Frankfurt Motor Show back in 2009. It received plenty of attention at the auto show, so we’re not surprised it was such a rousing success at the charity event. "We are absolutely delighted to have been instrumental in raising such a magnificent sum for Sir Elton's charity," commented Jeremy Hicks, Director of Audi UK. "We couldn't, of course, have done so without the incredible generosity of Sir Elton's guests, to whom we owe an enormous vote of thanks" he added.
