| Ferrari 458 Italia "Twins" by Novitec Rosso Posted: 05 Jul 2011 08:00 AM PDT The Novitec Rosso-tuned Ferrari 458 Italia was first introduced to us last March at the Geneva Motor Show. Fast forward to today and the German automaker has released a couple of new iterations from the 458 Italia we saw last March, calling it the "Twins." No, we’re not talking about Skids and Mudflap from Transformers 2; we’re talking about two blazing hot Ferrari 458 Italias that were re-tuned by the world famous Ferrari tuner from Stetten, Germany. The pair of supercars pretty much look alike, hence the name "Twins". Both carry the same red and black finish with plenty of carbon fiber details and a number of new items including a new front spoiler, flaps on both sides of the central air inlet, fender-mounted carbon fiber ventilation louvers, and carbon fiber mirror housings. About the only thing that distinguishes one from the other are the three-piece Novitec Rosso NF3 wheels with one model receiving a gloss black finish while its counterpart receives a scarlet red finish. As for the powertrain, the 458 "Twins" received the same engine upgrade we saw in Geneva in the form of a carbon-fiber airbox, a high-performance exhaust system, and an ECU remap. All these changes took the output of the 458 Italia’s 4.5-liter V8 engine from 570 horsepower all the way up to 609 horsepower at 9,100 rpm and a peak torque from 398 lb-ft all the way up 420 lb-ft. Novitec Rosso has even released a preview video of the 458 "Twins", which we highly advise you watch, just so you can start drooling over this pair of Italian exotics that were given the best possible German upgrades. | Jakusa Bossco by Tamas Jakus blends together the best of both worlds Posted: 05 Jul 2011 07:00 AM PDT The Chevrolet Camaro and the Ford Mustang have been a part of the never ending muscle car war since the very beginning, which explains their extremely loyal fan base. What if, though, a designer was able to capture design highlights of both vehicles and roll them into one car? Hungarian designer, Tamas Jakus - the same guy that brought us the awkwardly shaped Triango Revelation - has attempted just that with his new Jakusa Bossco. The Jakusa Bossco is a concept car that shares its measurements with the Chevrolet Camaro, but is inspired by muscle cars such as the Ford Mustang Boss 302. The front of the vehicle was designed featuring full chrome elements, while the strange looking headlamps come with LED lights. The car will sit on an impressive set of 21-inch wheels. While this is just a computer generated concept, Jakusa has envisioned a V6 engine under the hood which would deliver up to 600 HP. Combining the two most sought after muscle cars into one; design suicide or peace treaty in disguise? You decide. | Posted: 05 Jul 2011 06:00 AM PDT Lexus is planning to capitalize on the success of the CT 200h by introducing yet another full hybrid model. This time, however, the luxury automaker is entering the crossover market with the long-rumored Lexus CX. Expect the new CX to be launched at the end of 2012 as a 2013 model. The new Lexus CX will be built on the same platform as the Toyota RAV4 and will serve as a competitor for models like the BMW X1, the Audi Q3, and the Mercedes GLK. The new CX will only feature a hybrid drivetrain that combines a four-cylinder engine with a powerful electric motor, a generator, a high performance battery, a power control unit, and a power split device. This system will deliver about 200 HP and a fuel economy of about 47 mpg. As a comparison, the BMW X1 and the Audi Q3 can only achieve 45 mpg at best in their diesel offerings. No additional details for the future Lexus CX have been offered as of now, but we believe the exterior design language will combine elements from all the latest Lexus models. | Posted: 24 Jun 2011 01:00 PM PDT Volkswagen’s predicted domination of the automotive world just launched its next attack with three production versions of the Volkswagen Bluesport concept. According to Volkswagen, the BlueSport will see three different levels of performance illustrated in three different badges: Volkswagen, Audi, and Porsche. It can go without saying that the Porsche model will be the most powerful and, up until now, it was just known as the "baby Boxster." Well, that baby Boxster has finally been named. Say hello to the future Porsche 550. The "550" name was first used in 1953 (see picture above) when Porsche unveiled a sports car inspired by the legendary 356. At that time, the 550 was not considered a successor for the 356, but Porsche’s future 550 will more than likely carry that title. The new 550 will be the first model to be built on Porsche’s new sports car architecture and will be offered with a mid-mounted, turbocharged 1.6-liter engine that will deliver around 200 HP. This engine will be mated to a dual-clutch seven speed transmission. The future 550 will be launched in 2014 and, on the European market, will be priced about €8,000 ($11,500 at the current exchange rates) less than the current Boxster. That difference accounts for about 20% of the current Boxster’s price tag, which means our fellow Americans will have to pay about $38,000 to purchase it. Stay tuned for more details on the 2014 Porsche 550. Porsche 550 originally appeared on topspeed.com on Friday, 24 June 2011 20:00 EST. |
| Posted: 05 Jul 2011 03:00 AM PDT Prior Design knows a thing or two about tuning BMW models, having done so with their previous works on the new 6-Series and the M5. Taking their experiences in hand, the German tuning firm has introduced their new program for the BMW M6, one that features an astoundingly flashy lime widebody kit. Among the features included in the M6 package include a new front bumper lip, a pair of fenders, a pair of side skirts, a rear spoiler, a roof spoiler, and a trunk spoiler. According to Prior Design, all the parts included in the program are from Dura-Flex Epoxy Fiber Reinforced Plastic. This particular material comes with a top-grade surface finish that provides above-standard flexibility and high stability. And as an added option, customers can also avail of a new quad-tip exhaust system with an exclusive lime green finish with black racing stripes running along the center of the entire vehicle. The powertrain for the M6 remains untouched, but it shouldn’t make much of a difference, especially for a car that already features a 5.0-liter V10 engine. This engine produces 500 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque with a 0-60 mph time of just 4.5 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph. Flashy digs with a powerful engine? Sign us up! | TRW working on new steering wheel concept Posted: 05 Jul 2011 02:00 AM PDT In the ever-changing landscape of technology in the auto industry, automotive suppliers have entered into a sort of arms race to develop the latest and most technologically advanced systems in the world. TRW is one of them and the auto supplier is looking into developing a new type of steering wheel that if it pulls through, could become the future of steering wheels as we know it. The days of struggling to get into a car thanks to a larger-than-usual steering wheel will be a thing of the past. That’s because TRW is developing a folding steering wheel concept that retracts back into the dashboard, giving drivers a bigger - and unobstructed - space to get in and out of the car without the hassle of sliding on their seats until they get comfortable enough to scoot their way in and out of there. This concept wheel is more useful for the elderly and the constant struggles they face in what should be a menial task. Think arthritis and rheumatism is hard enough, try getting in and out of the car with those symptoms. Basically speaking, the wheel is made up of two small handles that fold inward anytime the car is turned off giving drivers enough space to navigate in and out of the seat without the hassle of bumping their knees on the wheel. Better yet, when the driver gets inside the car, the wheel pops back out depending on the driver’s position. All told, it’s a pretty unique technology that serves the purpose of giving drivers, especially the elderly, more space to move around the space they’re given and to a larger extent, provide an easier grasp and handle on an integral piece of equipment that has long needed a fresh take. | Aston Martin V12 Rapide set for Alaskan adventure Posted: 04 Jul 2011 12:00 PM PDT The Aston Martin V12 Rapide isn’t exactly the type of car that you’d bring out on a date with Mother Nature. Sure, it can get dirty once in a while, but for the most part, it belongs in the metropolis with paved concrete streets as its jungle. So imagine our surprise when we found out that the British luxury sports saloon is being prepared for an expedition unlike anything it has ever done in the past, James Bond movies included. Aston Martin is preparing the V12 Rapide for a three-day excursion into the heart of the harsh Alaskan wilderness as a way of slamming home the point that the Rapide is more than just stunning good looks and powerhouse powertrain; it can also survive the test of endurance and durability amidst some pretty serious conditions surrounding it. The entire trip will take the V12 Rapide across 1,230 miles in Alaska, beginning in Anchorage all the way to the town of Fairbanks through the Prudhoe Bay all the way up to the town of Deadhorse just a stone’s throw away from the Arctic Ocean. Continued after the jump. Aston Martin V12 Rapide set for Alaskan adventure originally appeared on topspeed.com on Monday, 4 July 2011 19:00 EST. |
