| Ferrari 458 "Italian Stallion" by Wheelsandmore Posted: 11 Jul 2011 09:00 AM PDT It seems as though Wheelsandmore is never short of ideas when it comes to tuning projects, as evidenced by these fancy programs we’ve been getting lately. On the same day they introduced separate tune-ups for the Ferrari California and the Lamborghini Murcielago, the German tuning shop also dished out one for the Ferrari 458 Italia. It’s called the ’Italian Stallion’, and appropriately so because Wheelsandmore’s program offers all that - and more. No pun intended, by the way. For starters, the tuning firm gave the Ferrari supercar a two-tone design with black racing stripes running down the middle to go with a huge rear wing on the back of the car. Then there’s also something that’s right up their wheelhouse: a new set of fancy rims. For this program, Wheelsandmore chose to give the 458 Italia a set of its own 21" "6 Sporz²" forged rims to go with 245/30/21 and 345/25/21 Hankook tires in the front and back of the car, respectively. The car also has a lift-up system at the front axle, providing a substantial hydraulic lift of about 40 mm to ensure that the car can clear any and all speed bumps that may come its way. While all of that is fine and dandy, the real star of this program is the 458 Italia’s 4.5-liter V8 engine, which was given an ECU upgrade and a new valve-controlled exhaust system with remotable flaps and stainless steel manifolds. All those tweaks result in the car’s output jumping from 570 horsepower to a mouth-watering 621 horsepower and 616 lb/ft of torque with an estimated top speed of 205 mph. There’s a lot to love about this "Italian Stallion" program, something that we’re saying a lot more often when it comes to packages from Wheelsandmore. | Posted: 11 Jul 2011 08:00 AM PDT With Aston Martin’s recently acquired £304 million bond - about $440 million at the current rates - the brand is full speed ahead on supplying an all new platform for their full line of sports cars, including the DB9, Vantage and Rapide models. In fact, the new DB9 has already been caught testing for the first time, under heavy camouflage of course. The highly decorated model doesn’t exactly tell us much, but at least we’ve got an official confirmation of the car’s current development. The first details for the 2013 Aston Martin DB9 suggest that it will get new lights like the ones found on the Rapide and Virage, a new side profile, new side skirts, a more aggressive front spoiler, and a rear trunk lid lip. The rear end also looks to be a bit wider and taller than the current DB9 and there will also be new mesh-grilled hood vents and side mirrors that stand farther away from the doors, mounted on thinner, more aerodynamic stalks. Under the hood, the new DB9 will feature the same 6.0-liter V-12 engine that delivers 510 HP and is mated to a a choice of six-speed manual or shift-by-wire six-speed automatic. Expect the 2013 Aston Martin DB9 to make its debut sometime next year. 2011 Aston Martin DB9 pictured above. Aston Martin DB9 originally appeared on topspeed.com on Monday, 11 July 2011 15:00 EST. |
| Marvel and Harley Davidson collaborate on 1200 Sportster bike giveaway Posted: 11 Jul 2011 07:15 AM PDT Chris Evans hits the cinemas next week as the star-spangled hero in Captain America and as with most blockbusters of its stature, there are plenty of companies looking to capitalize on the vast marketing potential the movie is expected to draw. In this particular case, one company that's all too familiar with the period setting of Captain America – World War II, if you didn't know – has decided to hitch a ride with the American patriot. That company is Harley-Davidson. History lessons on this subject will tell you that around the time of the second World War, Harley Davidson had over 70,000 WLA bikes – they were affectionately called the "Liberators" - built for the soldiers of the war to use in whatever means they could. This wasn't lost in the movie as trailers have shown Cap himself riding one of these bad boys in America's fight against Red Skull and his evil band of German henchmen. All in all, Harley Davidson collaborated with Marvel to build five Cross Bones bikes modified to make them look like the WLAs of the 40s. On top of producing the bikes used in the movie, the two companies also collaborated on building two special edition bikes for their "H-D Free the World" promotion, one to a member of the military and another to a plain old Joe like all of us. As part of the giveaway, the two lucky winners will travel to the Harley production facility in Milwaukee to receive a pair of Sportster 1200 that can be customized to their tastes and preferences. To learn more on how you can be that lucky civilian to win a customized Harley 1200 Sportster, feel free to check out the link and found out all the information you need to enter the contest. | Video: The perfect way to boost morale in the workplace Posted: 11 Jul 2011 07:00 AM PDT
We’ve encountered some out-of-the-box team-building sessions in the work place in the past, but this one is something that we haven’t seen before. Quite frankly, we haven’t seen an activity like this anywhere for that matter. In this video, you’re going to witness a team-building activity unlike anything you’ve ever seen before. It involves a company called Adaptive Computing, a UT-based HPC and cloud computing company, and members of its sales team who received the most unusual of rewards for surpassing their 2010 revenue goal: they got the chance to blow up their boss’ 1995 Mitsubishi Mirage. We’re dead serious. Apparently, the Mirage even had a name - Patrik - and was the main attraction of the family picnic when the company’s VP of HR had the idea of blowing up the car that belonged to the company’s VP of Sales. Watch the video and you’re going to hear kids’ voices in the background, excitedly waiting for Patrik to get blown to smithereens. We don’t know how the owner of this car agreed to have his vehicle blown up, but seeing as he’s a vice president within the company, he probably has something much better than a 1995 Mirage in his garage. Check out the video for all the carnage! Video: The perfect way to boost morale in the workplace originally appeared on topspeed.com on Monday, 11 July 2011 14:00 EST. |
| Posted: 11 Jul 2011 07:00 AM PDT It’s been a few years since Spada released their Codatronca TS, but the now famous Italian car designer is back with an open top version of their supercar. The new model is called the Monza and will be making its grand debut at this year’s Top Marques Monaco. The Spada Codatronca Monza will more than likely feature the same V8 engine found in its older brother, the Codatronca TS. The TS was going to be offered in three different variants; a TS "Sport Tourism" with 512 HP engine, a TSV "Fast Sport Tourism" with 513 HP, and a TSS "Sport Super Tourism" with 700 HP. The TSS "Sport Super Tourism" was even capable of a 211mph top speed, unfortunately, it never saw the light of production day. The only variant that successfully stomped across the production line was the tamer of the three - the TS - which brought in $425,000 per unit. It is rumored that the Monza version will feature a larger power output than that of the TS, with a probable 630 hp at 6500 rpm and 492 lbs-ft at 4800 rpm. UPDATE 07/11/2011: After unveiling the Codatronca Monza at the Top Marques Monaco, Spada has released a new picture gallery of their latest 720 HP supercar. Enjoy! | BMW 1-Series M Coupe by Kelleners Sport Posted: 11 Jul 2011 06:00 AM PDT The BMW 1-Series M Coupe is one of our early favorites for car of the year and apparently, the love for this car extends far beyond our pages. A number of tuning companies are already lining up to get their hands on the 1M Coupe and short of saying, a tuning race of sorts has began to release the best possible aftermarket program for the baby M. Kelleners Sport is one of the first to roll out their version of a modded 1M Coupe. Their package includes aerodynamic and performance upgrades that leave plenty of discussion on both sides of the fence. For starters, the car’s external profile has been added with various items, including a new front lip, stripes on the car’s hood, roof, and side sills, a new stainless steel grill, and a set of either 20" ’Berlin’ or ’Hamburg’ alloy wheels. | Lotus Ephemer Concept by Mael Oberkampf is a predator waiting to attack Posted: 11 Jul 2011 05:00 AM PDT Remember the BMW M-Zero concept unveiled by Maƫl Oberkampf back in 2008? Well, let us introduce you to its bigger and more luxurious brother; the Lotus Ephemer Concept. This new concept takes its inspiration from a number of big names in the auto industry such as Aston Martin, Peugeot, and TVR models, as well as some natural design elements found in manta rays and sharks. Those big menacing wheels and smooth contoured lines found on the exterior of the Ephemer concept are combined with what the designer says is an interior that offers the latest technologies and creature comforts needed for long rides. No details were given to back that up, but all of the information we need is in the 500 HP engine found under the hood. With this engine, the concept is said to top out at 186 mph. Be it a hybrid motor or a conventional engine, this concept delivers all of the power and performance needed to rival the best of sports cars. The only problem is that we may never see it make the production line. | Posted: 11 Jul 2011 04:15 AM PDT Usually we talk about watches inspired by high performance cars, but this time around, we’ve come across a special timepiece that was inspired by Ducati’s line of motorcycles. The new Fastrider Chronograph was designed by Tudor and combines the traditional red and black colors of Ducati bikes with their time-tested chronographs. If anyone is interested in picking one of these bad boys up then expect to pay between $4,143 to 4,379, depending on the customization options. The watch features a 42mm steel casing with polished satin finish, while the main movement of the watch is powered by the self-winding mechanism, which never lets time display lag behind. The watch offers a power reserve of approximately 46 hours. The winding screw is engraved with the Tudor logo, with another one being placed at the upper part of the dial. The watch also gets 2 totalizators; a 30 minute totalizator placed at the 3'o'clock mark, and the 12 hour totalizator placed at the 6 'o' clock mark. It is waterproof to a depth of 150 m (500 ft). | Lamborghini Murcielago LP720-4 Final Edition by Wheelsandmore Posted: 11 Jul 2011 03:00 AM PDT The departed Murcielago is no longer part of Lamborghini’s future, but it certainly doesn’t mean that we’ve seen the last of this highly popular supercar. That much you can be sure of when tuning companies like Wheelsandmore are still around. The German tuning firm famous for some pretty sick projects in the past have outdone themselves yet again with their new program for the Murcielago LP670-4 SV. The project is fittingly called the Murcielago Final Edition, a nice homage to the recently discontinued Lamborghini supercar. And in choosing what type of Murcielago to work on, Wheelsandmore opted for the grand-daddy of them all, the Super Veloce. The fact that there’s only 350 units of this kind in the world already makes the Super Veloce a rare piece of Lamborghini, but Wheelsandmore’s program for the supercar adds another element of exclusivity. Aesthetically, the changes include dressing up the car in an olive green color scheme with matching skull logos on both sides of the door. We’re not entirely sure what the skull logos are doing there, but we’re also not about to question these guys on their own project. Hit the jump to read the major highlights of the Lamborghini Murcielago LP720-4 Final Edition by Wheelsandmore.
